Manomet Place, New Bedford - Paul & Niki Tsongas Award

Manomet Place in New Bedford is a 2023 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award Recipient! The adaptive reuse and transformation of Manomet Mill No 1. represents the conscious decision to preserve the past while planning for the future. Ten years in the making, this second phase of preservation and rehabilitation completes the conversion of a historic textile mill into essential senior housing, now known as Manomet Place. Phase I of the Manomet Mills redevelopment successfully rehabilitated a 142,000-square-foot portion of the mill complex into a 76 unit mixed-income age-restricted community. The second phase involved the adaptation of the adjacent 135,732 square foot mill into 71 one-, two-, and three-bedroom affordable and workforce units, restricted to residents aged 55+. At the onset of the second phase of redevelopment, founding partner of The Architectural Team, the late Robert J. Verrier, FAIA, NCARB, remarked on the importance of partnership, “We’re delighted to collaborate on this significant renovation initiative that brings much-needed housing to New Bedford’s seniors, and we are honored to once again partner with WinnDevelopment. In order to create thriving prosperous communities, housing options must be within reach for everyone, and historic adaptive reuse is one of the most powerful strategies for achieving this important goal.”

Congratulations to Manomet Place and their dedicated project team members!
