Sign Preservation Worcester's change.org petition to the owner of Notre Dame and Mayor Joe Petty to save Notre Dame des Canadiens from demolition.
The former Notre Dame des Canadiens Church, overlooking the Common in the heart of downtown Worcester, MA, is threatened with demolition in April of 2017 (upon the expiration of the city's one-year Demolition Delay Ordinance).
We petition the building’s owner, City Square II Development Co., LLC, to respect both the letter and the spirit of the City of Worcester Historic Building Demolition Ordinance and to make every effort to collaborate with the city’s historic preservation community and interested parties to find a productive reuse of this historic 1929 structure. We further petition the Worcester City Council to work with the owner and to bring its influence and resources to bear in encouraging the owner to find alternatives to the planned demolition of the building.
Re-imagine Notre Dame! Don't tear it down!
With a well-chosen and imaginative new use, this landmark building can become an important catalyst in the current effort to revitalize downtown Worcester. The combination of Notre Dame’s soaring and graceful architecture with a well-planned and exciting new use is capable of creating a magnetic public attraction and becoming an economic and tourism generator much greater than anything that could be offered by new construction on this site.
This petition will be delivered to:
Mayor of Worcester, MA Mayor Joe Petty
President Opus Investment Ann Tripp
President & CEO Hanover Insurance Group Joseph Zubretsky
