In September, 2019, PM announced a new partnership with the 1772 Foundation, bringing more funds to preservation projects in the Commonwealth: the Historic Preservation Matching Grant Program, open to non-profit organizations.

The 1772 Foundation announced that funding in the form of 1:1 matching grants up to $10,000 would be made available for the following exterior historic preservation projects: exterior painting, finishes and surface restoration, fire detection/lightning protection/security systems, repairs to/restoration of porches, roofs and windows, repairs to foundations and sills, and chimney and masonry repointing. This grant is administered and overseen in the Commonwealth by Preservation Massachusetts (PM). The 1772 Foundation has made up to $125,000 in total funding available for grant rounds in 2022 and 2023.

PM is very grateful to The 1772 Foundation for its generous support of historic preservation and its recognition that small brick and mortar grants can go a long way toward ensuring these historic assets remain intact and in use for years to come.

2022 Grant Recipients Announced

PM is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2022 matching historic preservation grants for Massachusetts. Sixteen diverse projects from across the Commonwealth were selected to receive funds of up to $10,000 each for exterior projects on their historic properties. This program reinforces the great needs that our many historic buildings have and the amount of work the organizations responsible for them undertake. The work they do today ensures these important parts of our history and community remain for the future. Learn more about the 2022 Grant recipients below!
