Abbott Lowell Cummings, a leading authority on first period architecture passed away at the age of 94. His career and writing spanned decades and he mentored so many scholars personally and beyond, with his books and teachings on historic architecture. Richard Candee, professor emeritus of the American and New England Studies and Preservation Studies programs at Boston University, honored Mr. Cummings in this piece published in Antiques and the Arts Weekly.

#TBT to (again), 1993 and the listing of Venfort Hall in Lenox on the Massachusetts Most Endangered Historic Resources List. Threatened with demolition to make way for a nursing home development, in 1994 the Ventfort Hall Association was formed. They raised funds through donations and loans from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and in 1997 purchased the property.
