Preservation Massachusetts

Ten Most Endangered Historic Resources Program

Established in 1993, the Ten Most Endangered Historic Resources Program is one of our most important preservation advocacy and education tools. Local groups or individuals who are deeply concerned about the potential loss of these significant resources nominate sites from across the state. The list is one of the first steps in focusing statewide attention on the condition of these historic resources and their importance to communities, and often serves as a catalyst for extensive preservation opportunities. Preservation Massachusetts is proud to announce that, due to the hard work and diligence of concerned citizens using the Endangered designation as a tool, fewer than one dozen of the more than one hundred site listed to date have been lost. Many resources have been saved or are progressing well towards that goal. Through the commitment and determination of communities, organizations and individuals, we hope that all of the Ten Most Endangered Historic Resources will be preservation success stories over the upcoming year!

Preservation Massachusetts highlights Statewide Endangered Programs in Forum News Article!

Erin Kelly, Assistant Director of PM has contributed the lead article for the National Trust's bi-monthly newsletter, Forum News.  The article highlights how statewide endangered lists function, their pros and cons, and how different statewide organizations, like PM, Colorado Preservation Inc., and the Mississippi Heritage Trust have made their programs creative in unique ways.  Erin was asked by the Trust to contribute after her participation and moderation of a session about endangered lists at the 2006 national conference in Pittsburgh.

This is terrific visibility and promotion for PM and our endangered program! Click below to view a PDF of Forum News and read the article.
